Dr. Fabian Ferrari

Postdoctoral Researcher, Utrecht University

I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at Utrecht University in the Governing the Digital Society focus area. My research combines digital sociology, economic geography, and platform studies. Specifically, I work on the governance of large language models and AI-generated media.

My doctoral thesis, Forces of Neural Production, examines the infrastructural geography of artificial intelligence. I investigate 1) how Amazon, Google, and Microsoft dominate the AI industry, 2) what this means for regulatory frameworks, and 3) how AI systems extend into cultural life

My research has been published in journals such as Nature Machine Intelligence, Cultural Studies, New Media & Society, Competition & Change, and Environment and Planning F. I have also co-edited a book, Digital Work in the Planetary Market, published by MIT Press
